Hilka Dirks
works in and between the generic fields of text, graphics, art and internet. She grew up in Berlin-Steglitz and lived with a cat named Miez van der Rohe in Karl Blossfeldt's former home. Shockingly curious, if moderately alienated, she read voraciously, wore Picaldi, hung out in parking lots, listened to punk, was obsessed with ethology and botany, occasionally stole cheap lipsticks from Karstadt—and somehow thought about art all the time. Today she works as an editor for theater and Berlinkultur at taz, researches for her PHD at UdK, writes essays for Deutschlandfunk and more or less regularly for various formats including Monopol, der Freitag, Cee Cee Berlin, FAZ Quarterly as well as various artists and occasionally organizes an event called Karton. Always oscillating between relentless sympathy and playful provocation.
